HOW IT ALL BEGAN
My love of photography started in 7th grade when I took my first black and white film class. I learned to shoot and develop my black and white negatives, and get creative in the dark room when developing my images. I studied the work of some of the old "Masters" of black and white photography like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Irving Penn, Ansel Adams, Helmut Newton, and Peter Lindbergh. For me, black and white images are classic and timeless. They remove the distraction of color, allowing the viewer to focus on the emotion and compositional elements instead. Today, I shoot predominately in color with both my Nikon and Canon mirrorless cameras. I've traded my darkroom days for computer programs like Photoshop and Lightroom, where the photo manipulation is endless! Rest assured my love of black and white photography still exists, and you can count on seeing at least a couple of images from every photo session in monochrome!
