How to Get the Most Variety Out of Your Senior Session Wardrobe

For all of you Southern California seniors, guys and girls, getting ready for your photo sessions, let’s talk outfits. The secret to a standout gallery is variety. The more variety in your wardrobe, the more dynamic and interesting your photos will be.

Here are five quick tips to help you plan looks that photograph beautifully, and feel completely you.

1. Switch Up Your Colors
Avoid wearing the same color pallette in every outfit. Mix in different shades and tones to keep your gallery fresh. Soft neutrals always photograph beautifully, but brighter colors pop on camera and add contrast. Even one bold color can make a big difference.

Not sure what colors look best on you? When you book with Christine Ziff Photography, you’ll receive my exclusive What to Wear Guide, a curated resources that helps you match your skin tone to the most flattering wardrobe colors so your photos look as stunning as you feel.

2. Mix Up Your Styles and Silhouettes
Each outfit should show a different side of your personality.

For girls, think about variety in both style and shape. Bring a short dress or a denim skirt along with a long, flowy maxi  for movement and elegance, and if you love dressing up, a ball gown inspired look is always a showstopper. Include one look that feels casual, like jeans and a cute top, and one that feels more elevated or editorial.

For guys, start with a suit for a sharp, confident look, then change into something more relaxed like jeans and a tee or a button down with rolled sleeves. Even if you don’t have a full suit, bring a structured jacket or blazer to layer over your casual outfit. It adds variety, texture, and a touch of color while keeping your look clean and polished. Mixing both styles and fits gives your gallery depth, interest, and a refined, natural flow.

3. Add Accessories
Accessories can completely change the feel of an outfit. For girls, a jacket, hat, scarf, pair of sunglasses, or simple jewelry can take your look from casual to styled in seconds.

For guys, small details go a long way. A great watch, belt, pair of sunglasses, or jacket adds polish without overdoing it. These subtle touches pull the look together and photograph beautifully.

4. Mix Textures
Textures bring your photos to life and add depth to your gallery.

For girls, think about pairing fabrics that feel different from each other. A flowy maxi dress moves beautifully on camera and adds that soft, effortless texture everyone loves.  You can also mix a denim miniskirt with a cotton or silk tank top and cowboy boots for a fun rustic look. A casual pair of jeans with your future college sweatshirt or tank adds a great mix of comfort and personality too.

For guys, textures comes through layers and fabric choices. A suit always photographs with confidence, especially when paired with a textured shirt, vest or tie. You can also mix materials like denim with cotton or layer a flannel over a tee for a relaxed, classic look that feels natural and timeless.

5. The Final Touch
Every outfit should highlight a different side of you, your personality, and your confidence. My goal is to make sure you feelseen, celebrated and completely yourself.  When your wardrobe reflects your style, your photos will do the same.
